Agency of Industrial Science and Technology, AIST, belongs to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry, MITI. It superintends 15 laboratories, eight of which are in Tsukuba, while others are located in seven major cities of Japan. These research institutesare known for their R&D which serves as the bases of technological innovations in the future, as well as for their numerous original researches.

Since its establishment in 1974, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has been extending technical cooperation in human resources development for nation building as part of Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) programs. JICA's activities take various forms such as dispatching experts and volunteers (JOCV) to developing countries. Also, JICA accepts participants from those countries for technical training in Japan.
