Japanese films account for 65.7% of Japan's box office in 2012
Asahi -- Feb 11
Japanese films accounted for 65.7 percent of the country's box office total last year, the first time homegrown cinema has broken the 60-percent threshold since 1969, an industry association said.
Blockbuster films grossing 5 billion yen or more played a crucial role in the overall number.
Four Japanese films, including "Brave Hearts: Umizaru" and "Thermae Romae," raked in 5 billion yen or more last year.
Three foreign films made at least 5 billion yen in 2011. But "Mission: Impossible--Ghost Protocol" was the only one in 2012.
