Abe pledges to increase Japan's deterrence
NHK -- Mar 17
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has said Japan needs to play a larger role to increase its deterrence under the Japan-US security alliance.
Abe delivered a speech at a graduation ceremony of the National Defense Academy in Yokosuka, near Tokyo, on Sunday.
The prime minister called on members of the graduating class to remember that they have the responsibility to protect resolutely the lives and property of Japanese people and Japan's land, sea, and air in the event of an emergency. He urged the class to withstand training and tasks no matter how harsh they can be.
