Pulp fibers to be developed into display screens
NHK -- Mar 18
A Japanese paper maker and a chemical company have jointly developed transparent paper from pulp fiber. The new material is expected to be used in tablet computer displays.
Oji Holdings and Mitsubishi Chemical developed the paper from a material called nanofiber cellulose in pulp fibers. The material is one-20,000th the thickness of a human hair and features high optical transparency.
The two companies plan to bring the paper into cost-effective mass production within three years in cooperation with electronics makers.
They are also aiming to develop tablet computers that can be rolled or folded up, taking advantage of the material's extreme flexibility.
