Mystery remains around Collins' knife arrest in Japan

Jerry Collins' manager and lawyer is still waiting to speak to his client more than 36 hours after his arrest in Japan for carrying a kitchen knife in a department store.
The former All Black, who played for the Yamaha Jubilo club in Japan's Top League, is in jail, after being detained by police in the city of Hamamatsu.
He was allegedly found behind the store's sales counter with a blade longer than the permitted 15cm.
Collins insists he was carrying the knife for self-defence.
But manager Tim Castle was still trying to get to the bottom of the incident this morning and told TV ONE's Breakfast that he hoped to finally speak with his cleint today.
Castle acknowledged that been considerable speculation about why Collins was carrying the 17cm knife, including the possibility that he had been threatened via social media.
Under Japanese law, police can detain Collins for as long as 23 days without charging him, although the process requires a series of applications through the courts.
