'Lucky man' race held at Nishinomiya shrine
NHK -- Jan 10
Thousands of people took part in a New Year race at a Shinto shrine in western Japan on Sunday. The winner is crowned the year's "luckiest man."

The event is held every January 10th to pray for good business. It takes place at Nishinomiya shrine in Hyogo Prefecture.

About 6,000 runners had lined up at the shrine gate before dawn. At the beating of the drums at 6 AM, they dashed to the main hall, roughly 230 meters away.

The winner this year was 16-year-old high school student Michinari Mizuta.
