US fighter jets temporarily deployed in Okinawa
NHK -- Jan 28
US fighter jets and stealth fighter jets have been deployed at Kadena Air Base in Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan, since Monday. Local residents strongly oppose their presence because of the noise.

Twelve F16 fighter jets arrived on Wednesday. Fourteen F22 stealth fighter jets flew to the base on Monday and Tuesday.

The F16 and F22 jets are based at a US facility in Alaska.

US Air Force officers say they deployed about 25 jets at Kadena Air Base. They say they will stay at Kadena until the end of next month.

They add the deployment is part of a drill to strengthen skills linked to their duty to defend Japan.

Local municipalities around the base fiercely oppose the presence of the aircraft.
