Baby giant panda in good health at Tokyo zoo

Officials say a giant panda cub just born at a Tokyo zoo is in good health.

The cub came into the world on Monday. The father is Ri Ri, and the mother is Shin Shin.

The zoo conducted its first physical of the baby for about 20 minutes on Wednesday morning after separating it from its mother.

The cub weighs 147 grams and is 14.3 centimeters in length. But, officials were unable to confirm its sex.

Mikako Kaneko, a section chief at the zoo, says the baby's crying and bowel movements indicate that it has no health problems.

She says the staff will continue to monitor the cub around-the-clock.
