Record rainfall has hit parts of the Kyushu region in southwestern Japan.
Downpours of more than 550 millimeters have been registered in Asakura City, Fukuoka Prefecture, since Wednesday. That's about 50 percent more than usual for the month of July.
The Meteorological Agency says some areas in the city of Iki, Nagasaki Prefecture, have had "once-in-a-half century downpours" exceeding 300 millimeters over the past 24 hours.
On Thursday afternoon, the agency lifted its emergency rain warnings for the prefectures of Fukuoka and Oita. But it says rainfall of 50 millimeters per hour may hit some places in northern Kyushu through Friday.
Rainfall of 200 millimeters may be observed before around noon on Friday in the prefectures of Fukuoka, Oita, Kumamoto, and Nagasaki.
Weather officials are cautioning against mudslides, overflowing rivers and flooding.
