Renho, leader of Japan's main opposition Democratic Party, on Tuesday disclosed personal documents as evidence that she has resolved the issue of her Japanese-Taiwanese dual citizenship and is now a Japanese citizen.
Renho apparently hopes to focus on rebuilding the party by putting an end to the nationality scandal, which erupted after she expressed in August last year her intention to run in a DP leadership election in the following month.
In September, Renho said that she gave up her Taiwanese citizenship when she obtained Japanese nationality in 1985 at the age of 17, but soon admitted that her Taiwanese citizenship remained intact.
She announced the completion of procedures to abandon her Taiwanese citizenship later in September and the choice to maintain Japanese nationality in October.
