6 injured in mudslide in Gifu

Aug 19 (NHK) - A landslide has struck four cars on a highway in central Japan.

Police say 6 people, including 2 children, were injured in the incident on Friday night along the Chuo Expressway in Gifu Prefecture. Earlier, the police reported 11 people had been injured.

Mud from the landslide covered about 60 meters of the road. The height of the mud was more than one meter in some places.

Heavy rain associated with unstable atmospheric conditions has been hitting the region since late Thursday. The Meteorological Agency said some places in the area had more than 100 millimeters of rain in one hour.
