Abe, Putin agree N.Korea poses grave threat

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says he and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed that North Korea's nuclear tests pose a grave threat to peace and stability in the region.

Abe and Putin spoke at a joint news conference after meeting on Thursday on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, in Russia's Far East.

Abe said they agreed that North Korea's nuclear tests were a major challenge to the global non-proliferation regime.

He said Japan condemned the North's ballistic missile launches and the 6th nuclear test in the strongest terms.

He warned that North Korea will have "no bright future" if it continues on its current course, and said Pyongyang needs to understand this and change its policy.

Abe said that he and Putin agreed to work closely on North Korean issues at the UN Security Council, and on other occasions.

Putin agreed that North Korea poses a major threat to peace and stability in the region.
