Trump to make first Japan visit from Nov. 5

U.S. President Donald Trump will make from Nov. 5 his first visit to Japan since taking office in January on the first leg of his five-nation Asian tour, the White House announced on Monday.

According to Japanese government sources, Trump is slated to hold a bilateral summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Nov. 6.

Trump is also expected to have a meeting the same day with relatives of Japanese citizens kidnapped by North Korea decades ago, the sources said. The relatives of the abductees may include the parents of Megumi Yokota, who was kidnapped to the reclusive state in 1977 at the age of 13, according to the sources.

Trump showed strong interest in the abduction issue in his speech at the U.N. General Assembly last month. "We know it (North Korea) kidnapped a sweet 13-year-old Japanese girl from a beach in her own country to enslave her as a language tutor for North Korea's spies," he said in the speech, apparently referring to Yokota.
