Koike says she regrets much about Hope's defeat

Oct 23 (NHK) - Hope President Yuriko Koike has conceded defeat and said she has a lot to regret over her party's failure.

Koike was speaking to reporters in Paris, where she is attending a conference as Tokyo governor.

Koike said voters delivered a very harsh verdict for her party.

She said she had expected Hope to serve as a rallying point to counter Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's continued predominance in power. But she said regrettably, the party has become a target of criticism instead.

Koike said she had won 2 consecutive elections -- Tokyo gubernatorial and assembly contests. But she said this time, she must acknowledge total defeat.
