Meeting set to discuss abdication date

NHK has learned Japan is getting closer to finding out a date for the Emperor's abdication.

The Japanese government has decided to convene an Imperial House Council meeting on December 1st to hear opinions about an abdication date.

The participants will include the Speaker and the President of both Chambers of the Diet and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.

政府は、天皇陛下が退位される日程を定めるために安倍総理大臣が皇族のほか、衆参両院の議長らから意見を聞く皇室会議を来月1日に開くことを発表しました。政府内では2019年4月末に退位する案が有力視されています。
