Nov 27 (NHK) - Police are investigating a wooden boat that has washed ashore in northeastern Japan. This comes as several boats believed to be from the Korean Peninsula have been found in Akita Prefecture this month.
Police say they received a report of a boat drifting off the city of Oga at around 8:30 AM on Sunday. The unmanned vessel was found on a beach a few hours later. An 8-digit number was visible on its hull.
Police say they received a report of what appeared to be a wooden vessel drifting near the beach last Friday.
A boat carrying 8 men who said they sailed from a North Korean port washed ashore in the city of Yurihonjo on Thursday. It went missing on Saturday.
