Osaka to host G20 summit in 2019

NHK -- Feb 21

The Japanese government has decided to hold next year's Group of 20 Summit meeting in the western prefecture of Osaka. It will be the first time Japan has hosted the summit.

The government made the decision after conducting a survey of candidate municipalities on such factors as their capacity to accommodate leaders and officials from overseas, and security issues.

Osaka hosted an APEC summit in 1995.

The government is planning to hold the G20 summit between the end of June and the beginning of July.

Government officials are also considering holding a meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Fukuoka City in western Japan.
