Japan wins gold in women's team pursuit skating

Japanese speed skaters have won gold in the women's team pursuit event at the PyeongChang Olympics.

Sisters Miho and Nana Takagi, together with Ayano Sato, finished with a time of 2 minutes 53.89 seconds. That's a new Olympic record.

This marks the first time Japan has won gold in a team pursuit event at the Olympics. The women's team won silver at the 2010 Games in Vancouver.

The pursuit is a long-track speed skating event. Two teams of 3 skaters race each other at the same time.

The Netherlands won the silver medal. And the United States took the bronze.
