Whale sightings continue in Tokyo Bay

There were multiple reports of whale sightings in Tokyo Bay on Sunday, following many others in recent days.

The Coast Guard in Tokyo says it received reports that a whale was in the bay about 3 kilometers east of Tokyo's Haneda airport shortly after 9 AM, and about 6 kilometers northeast of an off-shore parking area on the Tokyo Aqua Line highway shortly after 3 PM on Sunday.

Footage taken shortly after 2 PM by the skipper of a sport-fishing boat shows a whale-like creature spouting water and exposing its caudal fins above the surface of the water.

The skipper told NHK that he was surprised to come across a living whale after hearing that there was supposed to be one.

Multiple reports have been made of whale sightings off the coast of Tokyo's Edogawa Ward and Koto Ward since last Monday.

The Coast Guard says these reports are all probably about the same whale.

It is calling on vessels travelling in the area to be on the alert so they don't crash into the creature.
