Trump congratulates Abe on re-election

Sep 21 (NHK) - US President Donald Trump has congratulated Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on his re-election as the leader of the main governing party.

Trump took to Twitter on Thursday after Abe secured his third straight 3-year term as president of the Liberal Democratic Party. He described the re-election as a "huge" victory.

Calling Abe his "good friend," Trump wrote that he is "looking forward to many more years of working together."

He added "See you in New York" in an apparent reference to his planned meeting with Abe next week on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
