71-year-old man held for allegedly attacking woman

Nov 13 (NHK) - A 71-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an assault on a woman in Yokohama, after he was apparently filmed walking right behind her with a stick.

Early on Sunday morning, the 34-year-old woman was stabbed in the back on her way home. The man in custody, Yoshikane Omi, is suspected of being involved in the case.

The woman was seriously injured. She told police that she was attacked from behind by a man she didn't know.

Surveillance camera footage shows a man in dark clothing walking right behind the woman, shortly before the incident.

Police believe Omi attempted to kill the woman and steal her belongings.

Police say he has admitted that the allegations against him are true.
