Over 50 bullets found in dead boy's room

NHK -- Jun 11

Police in Tokyo have found what appear to be more than 50 bullets in the room of a 15-year-old boy who died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The first-year high school student died on Monday from a suspected suicide at his home in Hachioji in suburban Tokyo.

A revolver resembling a US-made weapon was on the floor of the room where he was found bleeding from the head. The firearm could hold five bullets, and four remained in the cylinder.

The police are looking into the boy's mobile-phone records to try to find out how he obtained the firearm. Guns are strictly controlled in Japan.

The boy's family told police they didn't know he had a gun.

The boy's high school says he began taking a correspondence course from April. In late May, the boy complained of ill health and had only attended school for one day this month.

The high school says the boy apparently stopped going to school when he was a junior high student.
