Terunofuji wins 3rd sumo title

Terunofuji beat Ozeki Champion Takakeisho on the final day of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament on Sunday to win his 3rd title and secure his return to the Ozeki rank.

Terunofuji had been leading the spring race with 11 wins and three losses. He pushed out Takakeisho to capture his first title since last July.

Terunofuji lost his Ozeki title in 2017 and fell to the second-lowest division of Jonidan. He suffered from a knee injury and illness.

Terunofuji gradually recovered, and returned to the top Makunouchi division in last year's July tournament for the first time in two-and-a-half years.

He marked a total of 24 wins in the previous two tournaments.

He accumulated wins with his style of grasping the opponent's belt with both hands and pushing back after being driven to the edge of the ring.
