Tokyo police are ready to deal with possible trouble during Halloween celebrations on Sunday in the Shibuya district.
Huge crowds of young people and foreigners dressed in costume gather in Shibuya on Halloween night.
Shibuya Ward is asking people to refrain from celebrating, as it did last year, as part of anti-coronavirus measures.
Police mobilized a riot squad on Saturday. A public relations unit, known as the "DJ Police," was also on duty near the scramble crossing in front of Shibuya Station to guide pedestrians.
The streets were crowded with many people as it was the first weekend after the Tokyo Metropolitan Government lifted coronavirus restrictions on business hours for restaurants and bars.
Some young people in costume were asked by passers-by to pose together for a joint photo.
But police say there were no signs of any disturbances.
The police say they will be on watch on Sunday too as more congestion is expected.
