Feb 11 (Japan Today) - Police in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture, have arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of obstructing business after he repeatedly made around 440 false emergency phone calls to the prefectural police command and control center.
According to police, Yoshinori Mito, a public junior high school teacher living in Shibata, called the command center in Sendai City around 440 times from February to October 2021, Sankei Shimbun reported. Some of the false emergency phone calls were silent on Mito’s end, while others reported fake incidents.
Police said Mito has partially admitted to the charge but denied making so many calls. Police did not say whether he has given a reason for making the calls.
Mito emerged as a potential suspect after the command and control center traced the phone number visible in the incoming call record log.
