Japan’s bizarre ‘snow monsters’ attract tourists to Mount Zao

An unusual natural winter phenomenon called “Juhyo” has created magical “snow monster” like figures on Japan’s Mount Zao, a volcano in Yamagata prefecture.

The giant “creatures” are made of snow and ice, built up over tree trunks and branches. The spectacular scene on the upper slopes of the mountain attracts thousands of visitors from late January to mid March every year.
