Autumn foliage colors in their prime at Saimyoji Temple in Kyoto

KYOTO, Nov 11 (NHK) - Autumn foliage colors are in their prime at a temple in Japan's ancient capital of Kyoto.

Saimyoji Temple is in a mountainous area in Takao, a place known for its beautiful autumn foliage coloration.

The compound is located across a vermilion bridge crossing over Kiyotaki River. It is now surrounded by trees in red and yellow.

In the temple grounds, maple trees have turned bright red.

Temple officials say leaves began changing color at the beginning of this month, about five days earlier than usual. They say morning and evening temperatures remained low in late October. ...continue reading
