The police have searched 10 places related to the 2channel online bulletin board on suspicion that its operators assisted drug deals by failing to delete a post soliciting such transactions, according to sources.
The Metropolitan Police Department searched the 10 places, including a Sapporo-based computer company, on dates ranging from November last year to this month.
It is rare for the operator of an online bulletin board to be subjected to a criminal investigations for a message posted on it, observers said.
According to the sources, 2channel allegedly failed to delete a message posted on May 7 last year by a 54-year-old unemployed man trying to sell stimulant drugs and syringes. He has already been arrested on suspicion of violating the special law on drugs.
Another man and a woman, who saw the message, allegedly bought the drugs from him.
On Saturday at around 11:30 a.m., officers arrested Hideaki Shoji, a resident of Yokohama, after he allegedly came up from behind a 21-year-old female college student and shot digital images up her skirt as she stood on a platform at Kuhonbutsu Station in Setagaya Ward. (Tokyo Reporter)
