Many families gathered in Harumi on Sunday for what the Tokyo Fire Department is calling the customary "Fire Fighting Water Pageant."
Fire boats simultaneously shot streams of water in 5 different colors into the air. Since the Earthquake in East Japan this was the first time in 2 years the event was held as part of the "Tokyo Port Festival."
This time 380 people participated in a training drill where a ferry is ignited on fire. The passengers then jump out of the boat and while being watched by Tokyo Fire commissioner Yoshio Kitamura, a fire boat, rescue boat and helicopter worked together to put out the fire and rescue the passengers.
Families who came to watch the event were both pleased and impressed offering words of praise. The fire department voiced its resolve to continue protecting its citizens from fires and other water related disasters.
This Monday, members of the seminal metal band X Japan were in Odaiba rubbing shoulders with the likes of Brad Pitt, Lady Gaga and AKB48′s Yuko Oshima. The catch? They were all made out of wax. (Japan Times )
