JR East marks Tohoku Shinkansen Line 30 years of service

The Tohoku Shinkansen Line connecting Tokyo with northeastern Honshu marked 30 years in service Saturday, prompting East Japan Railway Co. to revive one of the original bullet trains from the Yamabiko service for a commemorative run between Saitama and Iwate prefectures.
Construction of the line began in 1971 and the high-speed service on a 505-km stretch between Omiya Station in Saitama and Morioka Station in Iwate started June 23, 1982, when the rail network was still run by the Japanese National Railways.
The western end of the line was later extended to Ueno Station and then Tokyo Station, while the eastern end was stretched to Shin-Aomori Station in 2010, completing the project.
