NEC deemed to have concealed over 10 bil. yen income
News On Japan via Yomiuri -- Jun 26

Tax authorities have cited NEC Corp. for concealing over 10 billion yen in taxable income over three years through the business year ending in March 2010, it has been learned.

The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau has judged that extra compensation NEC paid beyond contracts to two Hong Kong companies constituted social expenses, not business costs. The money was paid to the firms when NEC withdrew from the two companies' overseas cell phone businesses.

NEC has already revised its tax reports. No extra taxes were imposed as the amounts were offset by the company's huge deficits at the past.
