Japan 'ready to discuss new UNSC membership status'

Japan is ready to discuss the introduction of semipermanent membership on the U.N. Security Council, Japanese Ambassador to the United Nations Tsuneo Nishida said Monday.
Nishida was speaking at international negotiations on Security Council reform.
Semipermanent status would be longer than the current two-year term of nonpermanent members.
