Nikkei briefly slips below 9,000 level

Stocks lost further ground on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Friday, bowing to position-adjustment selling that emerged prior to the weekend and the release of a closely watched U.S. economic data.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average closed down 59.05 points, or 0.65 percent, at 9,020.75, after briefly slipping below 9,000 for the first time since June 29. On Thursday, the key market gauge fell 24.37 points.
