Scorching heat continues in Kanto, other regions in Japan

After scorching heat hit parts of Japan on Monday, high temperatures continued across the country Tuesday with the mercury rising over 39 C in the northern Kanto region, the weather agency said.
The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a heat warning for areas from the northeastern region of Tohoku to the southwestern region of Kyushu, calling on people to take precautions against heat stroke.
Temperatures soared to 39.2 C in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, at 2 p.m. and to 36.0 C in the city of Shirakawa, Fukushima Prefecture, by noon, a record high in the city, according to the agency.
