The No. 4 reactor at the Oi nuclear plant in Fukui Prefecture was set to start full-capacity power generation early Wednesday, Kansai Electric Power Co.'s said Tuesday.
The reactor was reactivated July 18 for the first time in about a year. It reached criticality for a self-sustaining chain reaction of nuclear fission Thursday and began transmitting electricity Saturday.
The No. 4 reactor and its sister unit, the No. 3 reactor at the Oi plant, are the only two to be brought back on line since all commercial nuclear power facilities were suspended following the start of the Fukushima crisis.
