Emperor, empress arrive in Karuizawa for short holiday

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko arrived in Karuizawa, Nagano Prefecture, on Thursday for a short summer break. The couple arrived aboard a special bullet train just after 11 a.m.
The Imperial Household Agency said the 78-year-old emperor is still undergoing rehab after his heart bypass operation in February and that he will be doing light exercises such as walking.
On Monday, the imperial couple are scheduled to attend an international music festival in Kusatsu, Gunma Prefecture, before returning to Tokyo on Aug 29.
