Japan to check thyroids of children outside Fukushima

The government will check the thyroids of 4,500 children at three locations in Japan to determine whether the diagnoses of about 36 percent of Fukushima children with thyroid growths are attributable to last year's nuclear disaster, officials said Monday.
Medical experts will this time conduct similar ultrasonic thyroid examinations on children aged 18 or younger outside Fukushima Prefecture through the end of next March, the officials said.
