Police have launched a murder investigation after finding a man's body in the home of a 23-year-old Nagoya resident arrested on suspicion of holding a 7-year-old girl captive for over 11 hours, law enforcers said.
Makoto Mizushima, a resident of Nagoya's Naka Ward, was arrested on suspicion of abducting a first-year elementary school student at about 8 a.m. on Sept. 3, and holding her captive in his apartment until about 7:30 p.m. the same day. The girl was not injured in the ordeal.
When police searched Mizushima's home, they found the body of a man inside, believed to be his father. Investigators quoted Mizushima as saying, "I killed him," and police have set up an investigation headquarters.
Aichi Prefectural Police said that the girl was supposed to go to school with other students in a group on the morning of Sept. 3, but didn't turn up.
