Man reported to prosecutors for littering in escalator accident that severed woman's finger

A man accused of discarding a whiskey bottle that led to an accident on a station escalator in which a woman's finger was severed was referred to public prosecutors on Sept. 10, police said.
Police sent papers on the 48-year-old man, a resident of Kawasaki's Miyamae Ward whose name has been withheld, to the Kawasaki branch of the Yokohama District Public Prosecutors Office on suspicion of violating the Waste Disposal Law. He is specifically accused of throwing away a pocket-sized whiskey bottle next to the handrail of an escalator at Musashi-Mizonokuchi Station on the JR Nambu Line at about 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 21 last year.
