NTT Docomo may lose to iPhone 5
News On Japan via Yomiuri -- Sep 15

Apple Inc.'s iPhone 5, which launches in Japan, the United States and other markets on Sept. 21, may speed the outflow of customers from NTT Docomo Inc., Japan's largest mobile phone carrier.

SoftBank Mobile Corp. and KDDI Corp. will support the newest model in Apple's enormously popular smartphone series. NTT Docomo's lineup does not include the iPhone.

"It is certain that consumers will be even more interested" in the iPhone 5 than in its predecessor models, an industry source said.

NTT Docomo is set to respond with the Galaxy smartphone series by Samsung Electronics Co. The Galaxy series uses Google Inc.'s Android operating system.

To woo subscribers, NTT Docomo will cut handset prices and data communications fees.
