Chinese tourists shun Japan despite 8-day holiday

Chinese tourists are avoiding Japan despite a mass exodus for domestic and overseas destinations during the annual National Day holiday period.
Beijing airport was packed with tourists Saturday, on the eve of the 8-day holiday period.
The China National Tourist Office estimates that about 345 million people will make domestic and overseas trips during this period, up 15 percent from last year.
However, major travel agencies say that many tourists cancelled their plans to visit Japan after the Chinese government issued a safety warning last week amid deteriorating bilateral relations.
Japan-bound flights are expected to drop to roughly 60 percent occupancy.
