China seizes Japan newspapers amid tensions over territorial dispute

China's customs authorities have seized Japanese newspapers delivered to China by air, amid mounting tensions over the Japan-controlled Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, Japanese logistics distributor Overseas Courier Service Co. said Tuesday.
The distributor, which is affiliated with All Nippon Airways Co., said the Chinese customs authorities have not provided the reasons for the seizure of last Thursday's evening and last Friday's morning editions of the Japanese newspapers, which were to be delivered to customers Friday afternoon.
An official of the distributor said that while Chinese authorities have taken out or blacked out certain articles of newspapers and magazines in the past, seizing entire newspapers was unheard of.
