Police and mental health specialists are assessing the criminal liability of a woman who has confessed to stabbing to death her two daughters at their home in Hayama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Wednesday night.
The woman, who has been named as 42-year-old Masako Nagato, lived with her 9-year-old and 9-month-old daughters in an apartment, police said Thursday.
The bodies of the children were discovered by the woman's mother who visited the apartment at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, Fuji TV reported. Police say they believe Nagato was taking a bath with her two daughters when she stabbed them with a fruit knife.
