Japanese car sales in China plummet in September 2012

Sales of new Japanese cars plummeted last month in China as consumers boycotted Japanese goods amid worsening relations between the 2 countries.
Mitsubishi Motors announced a 63 percent decline in sales from a year ago. Fuji Heavy Industries, which sells Subaru cars, reported a drop of 64 percent. Mazda sold 35 percent less vehicles.
Toyota Motor is also expected to report a large drop, as its sales have almost been suspended since anti-Japan demonstrations escalated in September over a territorial dispute.
Nissan also says it has been affected.
The automakers believe Chinese consumers also refrained from buying Japanese cars over fear that they might be damaged by protesters during the demonstrations.
