Horse racing: Outsider dashes Japan's Arc dream
News On Japan via abc.net.au -- Oct 08

Outsider Solemia produced a stunning late rally to deny Japan their first victory in Europe's most prestigious race, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, at Longchamp.

Solemia, giving trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias his first winner in the race, looked beaten as Japanese favourite Orfevre swept past her in the straight under Christophe Soumillon.

However, somehow Olivier Peslier summoned a second wind out of Solemia (40-1) to overtake the tiring Orfevre (7-2) within metres of the line.
