Beer shipments hit record low in Jan.-Sept.

Shipments of beer and quasi-beer in Japan for the January-to-September period fell 1.4 percent from a year before to 320,767,000 cases, the lowest level for the period since record-keeping began in 1992, major brewers' data showed Thursday.
The fall came as shipments plunged in July due to unfavorable weather, though demand picked up in August thanks to a heat wave.
Shipments in the January-to-June period saw a modest increase after slumping in the same period last year due to impacts from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
