Mother arrested for attempting to kill 3-year-old daughter

Police on Sunday arrested a 27-year-old woman for allegedly trying to strangle to death her 3-year-old daughter at their home in Inashiki, Ibaraki Prefecture.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Asami Yamaoka, attempted to strangle her daughter with a towel at around 9:30 on Saturday morning. Yamaoka's mother who lives with her and her two children discovered the girl unconscious in her room and called 119, TV Asahi reported.
