US urges transparency over China's naval moves

The commander of the US Pacific fleet says the Chinese naval vessels have the right to cruise in the international waters but called for the transparency of their activities.
Admiral Cecil Haney made the comment in a meeting with Japanese media on Tuesday in Tokyo.
Haney referred to 7 Chinese naval vessels that were seen just outside Japan's territorial waters west of Okinawa earlier in the day.
He said it is not surprising that China, as an emerging nation, has maritime capability. But, he also said the US hopes the country is transparent with what it does with its capability.
Commenting on disputes between Japan and China over the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, Haney said that the US political leadership takes no position in terms of sovereignty claims.
He added that the United States wants a peaceful resolution to the issue of the Senkaku Islands.
