A bottle held by a female passenger burst just past midnight Friday on a Tokyo subway car when it was standing at a station, causing minor injuries to 14 people, the Metropolitan Police Department said.
They are believed to have suffered burns on their skins caused by an alkali liquid that splashed from the bottle after it ruptured at around 0:20 a.m. on the train at Hongo-sanchome station on Tokyo Metro Co.'s Marunouchi line in the capital's Bunkyo Ward.
