A Japanese contestant has won the title of Miss International for the first time. Ikumi Yoshimatsu was crowned at this year's Miss International Beauty Pageant held in Naha City, Okinawa on Sunday.
The event was held to mark the 40th anniversary of the prefecture's return to Japan from US administration.
The last annual contest in Okinawa took place in 1975 when Okinawa hosted the Ocean Expo.
This year, contestants from 69 countries and territories appeared in the final round, wearing elegant dresses.
The audience gave a big round of applause when they saw Yoshimatsu, a 25-year-old model from Saga Prefecture in western Japan.
She was one of 15 candidates who advanced to the final screening.
They were judged on posture and expression, while delivering a one-minute speech about their dreams, the advance of women in society and other topics.
